One of the best things of going to school with a Fine Arts program is how many shows are put on right on campus! The student rate, plus the convenience of having it so close means that it is really easy to see amazing performances without ever leaving school. This week is no exception. The York Dance Ensemble is putting on ‘Precious Metals’ here on campus in the Sandra Faire and Ivan Fecan Theatre (or FFT). This show features choreography from a number of faculty members Julia Sasso and Holly Small (who is also the Artistic Director), MFA students Marie France Forcier and Michelle McLelland as well as guest artists Tentacle Tribe who are from Montreal.
The York Dance Ensemble is actually a course within the Dance Department. It offers a pre-professional experience for 3rd and 4th years starting with an audition process, lots of rehearsals and opportunities to perform! I am lucky enough to be a part of it this year, and would recommend it to any dance students who want an intense but rewarding experience.
‘Precious Metals’ opens this Thursday, March 20 and runs until Saturday, March 15. You can buy tickets and get more information here. Hope to see you there!
