Today was comically cold. And the day before . . . . And I’m pretty sure the day before that too. BUT the sure signs of spring and summer have finally begun to emerge. Granted, they are rare and far, far between, but the sporadic days of near 20 degree Celsius weather sprinkled across the past few weeks have been too wonderful to ignore.

On the latest of those rare days, I remember walking downtown through Chinatown, an overpriced ice coffee in one hand and, more importantly, only one layer of clothing on, listening to “September” by Earth, Wind & Fire. The combination put me into an incredible mood. I felt great.

Fast-forward to today, and the water pipes in my apartment are frozen because of the recent cold spell. As I walk outside now, “September” has suddenly been replaced by Gary Jules’s “Mad World”, the iced coffee has transformed into a thermal pack and instead of one layer of clothing, I am wearing a hefty three. Throw in exams and year-end projects on top of that, and it won’t surprise you if I can no longer describe my mood as ecstatic.

So what to do? We cannot influence the weather (nor our school schedules), but we do have that thing called “inspiration”. And if you’ve learned anything about me in the past year and a half of writing for the YUBlog, you’ll know that I take a lot of mine from music, So I’ve created a mix of 38 spring- and summer-worthy songs for all of us that, when played from beginning to end, might just raise the temperatures by a full 0.00001%. It may seem like a small amount, but if enough of you listen, spring (and then summer) will surely poke its head out that much sooner.

Whether you’re into hip hop, indie, dance, rock, Japanese grocery store, piano performances or anything in between, below you’re bound to find something to float your boat. Though really it’s not about us at all. Do it for the rays, people.

Finished the set? Congratulations! You just brought us one step closer to beautiful, non-subarctic temperatures. If you’re looking for more, check out the previous campus soundtrack here.

Have any of your own songs that bring on the warmth? Please throw them down in the comments below, or tweet us at @YorkUStudents. Let’s keep the list going.
